"Of making many books," wrote Solomon, "there is no end" (Ecclesiastes 12:12). This comment is not only true about books, but also of periodical literature. Then why should we publish "Bible Witness," a quarterly magazine in addition to those, which already exist?

Firstly, we feel that in Singapore there is a significant need for a biblically sound Christian magazine to aid laymen in their spiritual growth. As spiritual darkness and confusion pervades many souls in these days, it is necessary that we bear a good and faithful witness to the truth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Proverbs 14:25 declares, "A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies." How can we bear a true witness, if we do not propagate the truth, even His Word? How can we lead souls out of sin and hell, if we do not witness the message of the Bible? So we yield ourselves to His glorious purpose for all His people - "And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things. And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high." We pray, believing the promise of His Spirit, that God will grant us wisdom and strength to declare His Son and His truth through this magazine.

Certainly this effort to witness Christ and His Word is in the tradition of holy men of God such as John the Baptist (John 1:7-8, 15), Paul (Acts 22:15; 23:11), Peter (1 Peter 5:1), and the other apostles. Like them, we also ought to fulfil our duty to be witnesses for our Lord Jesus Christ. For we are commanded - "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."

Now this leads us to the other reason for the launch of this magazine - that we may spread the Biblical truths beyond our shore, even to the uttermost part of the world. Truly, sending pages printed with the Gospel truths is a faster, cheaper, and efficient way of missionary outreach. Though it can never substitute a faithful and diligent missionary, it gives us an effective channel to witness for the Lord even to the ends of the world.

The nature of the articles in the magazine will be doctrinal, devotional and practical. We hope that the articles will be fully utilized to foster the study of God's Word. In order to help the readers to fully utilize the articles, we are providing review questions for each article in our website. These questions are designed to facilitate discussions in group or family or individual Bible studies.

We thank God for pastors and elders of Bible-Presbyterian churches and other fundamental churches who have joyously offered their contribution of articles. We hope that through this magazine, their years of labour in writing and teaching will bless a larger number of souls.

As the news about the publishing of the magazine spreads through our widely distributed church weekly, and also through enthusiastic friends, requests for the magazine continue to come from several corners of the world. We need continuous and generous support from every one who loves the Lord and His Kingdom to make "Bible Witness" available to all, especially to churches and pastors in poorer nations.
